JCDC Release Paths

Jessamine County Detention Center is the county’s only confirmed local adult detention facility. It holds people awaiting court proceedings, people serving county sentences, and some state-related populations in contracted beds. Those groups do not all leave in the same way. A pretrial detainee may leave on bond or monitored conditional release while the case remains open. A county-sentence prisoner may leave after time served or sentence expiration. Another person may move to home incarceration, Kentucky Department of Corrections custody, another jail, federal custody, or immigration custody.

A name disappearing from the Current Inmate List proves only that the person was not displayed on that current-custody list when checked. It does not identify bond, sentence completion, transfer, a court movement, a data delay, or a spelling mismatch. The strongest confirmation combines a Kentucky VINE released date with the JCDC release sheet and the Jessamine court docket. If the sheet says transfer, identify the recipient before calling the event a community release.

Confirm a JCDC Release

Begin with the official Current Inmate List. A present entry indicates current listed custody. An absent entry is only a clue. Next, search Kentucky VINELink by name or offender ID, compare identity and agency details, and open the matching custody event. Kentucky’s official description says a not-in-custody result supplies the released date. Check for another state or county event because one event can close while another begins.

Then contact Booking or request the release sheet. The court file supplies the legal authority, which may be a bond order, dismissal, sentence, time-served entry, probation order, or another ruling. A court order may not show the exact time jail staff carried it out, so the docket and jail timestamp serve different purposes.

1. Record the full name, date of birth, booking number, and likely admission dates.
2. Check the current list and save the time of the check.
3. Search VINE and note the agency, exact status, released date, and event.
4. Ask JCDC for the booking and release record tied to that admission.
5. Review the Jessamine District or Circuit docket for the controlling order.

For a possible state transfer, add the Kentucky Online Offender Lookup. A KOOL institution location can explain why the county event ended. A parole status with a supervision begin date can show release into the community under supervision.

JCDC Records and Contact

The county jailer’s office is the record owner for an existing JCDC booking and release sheet. Use the official jailer page, email detentioncenteropenrecords@jessamineky.gov, or use the county’s open-records form landing page. Ask for an electronic copy and identify one admission. A focused request may seek booking and release timestamps, disposition or reason, releasing authority, transfer destination if recorded and nonexempt, charge and bond entries, and the booking photograph associated with that booking.

Kentucky law permits a qualifying written request through statutory channels even when an agency offers a form. The custodian responds to the request for existing records, not a demand to research or decide why a person left. If part of a record is withheld, ask for the nonexempt portions and the cited basis. No local copy price is posted, so do not assume a fee.

Inside the JCDC Record

A useful Jessamine County release record identifies which admission ended, when physical custody ended, the recorded reason, and any destination. Match the booking number and case number whenever possible. Similar names alone are weak evidence. The release sheet may carry a bond entry, sentence or time-served notation, releasing authority, or transfer information. The court record can include the complaint or indictment, docket, bond order, judgment, sentence, dismissal, probation order, or revocation order.

A historical release answers what happened to that identified booking. It does not prove current freedom from all custody. Search for later admissions when present status matters.

JCDC Population and Programs

County Jailer Jon Sallee operates JCDC. Official material describes worship, garden and work-detail activity, litter pickup, Moral Reconation Therapy, and treatment or recovery services. Kentucky DOC weekly jail reports also show why a county roster disappearance must be read with care: snapshots have listed Class D prisoners, controlled-intake prisoners, and parole violators in Jessamine County beds. These are state-related categories inside a county facility, not a state prison located in Jessamine County.

The July 10, 2025 state snapshot listed 96 rated beds and 116 occupants, including five Class D and six controlled-intake prisoners. The August 21 snapshot listed 104 occupants, ten Class D prisoners, and three controlled-intake prisoners. These figures are dated point-in-time counts, not release totals or current capacity claims. No adult state prison, federal prison, or ICE detention contract was confirmed inside Jessamine County.

JCDC Release-Day Details

No official source publishes a standard release time, exit door, property-return process, family waiting area, or weekend and holiday schedule. Posted office hours are administrative hours, not a promise about when releases occur. Call Booking for current operational details and identify the person’s booking. Court orders, holds, transport, and record processing can affect timing.

For a person returning to Nicholasville, Bluegrass RIDE describes fare-free local transit and possible off-route pickup. It does not promise a stop at JCDC. The Jessamine County Health Department’s Transitions program describes peer support, case management, identification help, transportation navigation, health referrals, and other transition services. Those programs help after release but do not confirm a custody status.

JCDC has also described treatment linkage and access to naloxone because overdose risk can rise after a period without drug use. That is a health resource, not a statement about any individual. Confirm current service details directly with the provider.

County Release Versus Transfer

Use exact language. “Released from JCDC on bond” means county physical custody ended under a bond order while the case may continue. “Transferred from JCDC to KDOC” means county custody ended and state custody began. “Released to parole supervision” means incarceration ended but supervision did not. “Discharged” should be reserved for a record that shows the relevant sentence or supervision ended.

Community supervision after incarceration under a parole decision.

Probation

Court-ordered community supervision that may occur without prison.

Detainer

A request or legal basis for another authority to take custody.
